Aalto chair Y612, birch - black

Artek's Y612 chair was designed by Alvar Aalto in the late 1940s. This beautiful design chair features Y-legs made of bent birch and a seat and backrest upholstered in black faux leather. The union of different rounded shapes gives the Y612 chair an interesting character – while still preserving Aalto's minimalist aesthetics. Aalto's Y612 chair can be used by the dining table or as an accent side chair in any room.

Alvar Aalto, together with carpenter Otto Korhonen, began experimenting with bending solid wood in the late 1920s. The collaboration resulted in an L-leg, which was an invention that took a step towards the mass production of Aalto’s furniture. Alvar Aalto patented the L-leg bending technique in 1933. L-leg became to be the standard component for Aalto’s furniture design and based on the invention also Y-leg and X-leg were later developed.
