Ametisti rug, beige - lilac

Finarte’s Ametisti rug adds a bold dash of modern Finnish design to any space. Conceived by design duo Juslin Maunula, the hand-tufted rug features a simple yet striking geometric pattern and a gorgeous, pleated surface structure that changes direction in different parts of the rug. The rug is handmade in India.

Typically for Juslin Maunula, the inspiration for the Ametisti rug’s design comes from the realms of fashion and architecture: pleated fabrics and fluted stones and tiles. The tactile design is accentuated by not only the bold colour choices but also the overall layout – the composition of the colour blocks highlights the direction of the pleats. Additionally, the design is informed by the works of colour theorist Josef Albers and architect Carlo Scarpa, who has also influenced the name of the rug: Ametisti is Finnish for amethyst, a stone Scarpa often favoured in his designs.

The Ametisti rug is part of Finarte’s Galleria collection. With this collection, Finarte was the first in Finland to begin collaboration with TrusTrace, a digital platform for product traceability and transparency. The rugs have a QR code that you can scan to trace the journey of the rug from material to final product.

Juslin Maunula

Finarte is a Finnish rug company founded in 1985 by Eija Rasinmäki, a pioneer of rag rugs, and businessman Erkki Immonen. Finarte is known for its beautiful and unique designs with a focus on reusable materials. The rugs are handwoven in India, where the collaboration with the local rug makers has continued from the 1990s.

Today the company is led by the founders’ daughter Larissa Immonen, and it focuses on combining traditional Finnish weaving heritage with contemporary design and ecological values. The designers include both, well-known and fresh names of Finnish design.
