Artek poster 1935-1985

The posters designed by Ben af Schultén were created to celebrate Artek's 50th anniversary in 1985. These posters were made in various colors, and their design reflects Schultén's interest in Artek's history and old materials. The designer studied Artek's scrapbooks, which included elegant old invitation cards. These inspired him to create his own vision for the posters.

Schultén was a child of Bauhaus graphics, and the style of the posters reflects this background. The design language of the posters was influenced by the reliefs used by Alvar Aalto, which Aalto often incorporated into his exhibitions. Although Schultén did not have formal training in graphic design, he succeeded in creating visual play and expression from scratch.

By doing so, Artek has elevated Finnish design, along with Aino and Alvar Aalto's furniture, to global recognition. Artek’s furniture and lighting are cornerstones of Finnish design, gracing numerous homes and public spaces worldwide. Even today, most of Artek's wooden furniture is crafted in Finland.
