Cassina's Göteborg chair was designed by Swedish architect Erik Gunnar Asplund in 1983. The chair was designed as a commissioned work for the extension of the Town Hall in Göteborg, Sweden. The ash frame Göteborg chair features a padded seat and a curvy backrest that are upholstered with grey leather. The elegant design of the chair is inspired by both the modernist design of the Bauhaus era and Chair 14, designed by Michael Thonet in 1859. Cassina is an Italian design brand established in 1927. In the 1950s Cassina pioneered in launching industrial design in Italy, and today its collections are characterized by combinations of new, technical innovations and traditional craftsmanship. During the decades, Cassina has collaborated with some of the most legendary masters of modern design, including Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright and Gerrit Thomas Rietveldt, and its more recent collaborations feature names such as Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Michele de Lucchi and Philippe Starck. In 2015, the Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola became the Art Director of Cassina.
