Kastehelmi tea stand, clear - silver

Nuutajärvi Glassworks' Kastehelmi tea stand is part of the glassware collection designed by Oiva Toikka in 1964. The tea stand features two different sized clear plates decorated with strings of glass bubbles. The Kastehelmi tea stand will delight in any table setting. Nuutajärvi Glassworks produced the Kastehelmi tea stand in a few different sizes and colours in the 1970s.

The beautiful glass droplets of the Kastehelmi series have both an aesthetic and a technical function: Oiva Toikka developed a pattern that would conceal the joint marks in pressed glass and the result was Kastehelmi, Finnish for dewdrop. Kastehelmi was manufactured until 1988 and it was one of Oiva Toikka's most beloved glass series. Iittala brought the most popular items of the series back into production in 2010.

Oiva Toikka

Nuutajärvi Glassworks was established in Urjala in 1793, and until 2014 it was the oldest glass factory still operating in Finland. The Nuutajärvi glass factory area is nowadays listed among the nationally important built cultural environments by The National Board of Antiquities. During its long history, Nuutajärvi Glassworks manufactured everything from window glass to design glass.

Kaj Franck was the longest-running artistic director of the Nuutajärvi Glassworks between 1951 and 1973. The glass factory also employed several other well-known Finnish glass designers such as Gunnel Nyman, Saara Hopea, Oiva Toikka, Heikki Orvola and Kerttu Nurminen. Independent glass designers and artists still work and manufacture glass objects at the Nuutajärvi glass factory area.
